Swallowing Disorders Dysphagia
Our physicians offer expertise in the medical and surgical treatment of swallowing disorders. We provide on-site transnasal esophagoscopy, a painless and state of the art technique to evaluate the esophagus and gastroesophageal (GE) junction. This allows us to screen for problems in the upper gastrointestinal tract without the need for a formal “upper GI” endoscopy, which typically requires sedation anesthesia.
In addition, in partnership with speech-language pathologists from The Washington Hospital, we are able to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services in the treatment of your swallowing disorder. From a surgical standpoint, our doctors have expertise in the treatment of pharyngoesophageal strictures, cricopharyngeal dysfunction, as well as minimally invasive endoscopic treatments of pharyngoesophageal or “Zenker’s Diverticula,” a common and easily treatable cause swallowing problems in the elderly population.
